I've been quite frustrated with Firefox's memory use on my Mac, so I've been shopping for other browsers. Safari is alright, but I don't love how it looks, and it can be a little slow sometimes as well. Camino is nice too, but it lacks some of the features I like. So I decided to take Opera for a spin, and so far I love it.

Here's what matters to me:

1. Not much screen space taken up by toolbars. My friend Preston has every damn web analytics toolbar in the world installed on his Firefox--I cringe every time I look at his screen.
2. Fast browsing. Beach balls during Internet usage is a no-no.
3. Fill in common forms for me.
4. Shut down in a hurry.
5. Smart keyboard shorcuts. Tabbing around form elements is mandatory for me, and if you use command+arrows, Opera will even let you navigate around the hyperlinks on the page.

So far, Opera's winning on just about every count. Camino always "quits unexpectedly" even when I close it normally, and Safari just doesn't quite feel right. I don't really like its tabs. I love Firefox; it's been great to me over the years. I think I started using it in version 0.93 on a Linux Desktop, and at the time it was the absolute best. I will still use it for all my web development needs, but for standard browsing, it might be Opera from here on out.
